It's hard for me to express how absolutely satisfied and happy I am with this suit.

| Those toys under the tree are "presents" that Calvin put under there. |
The teal wool was $5. I don't remember what I paid for the pattern (Butterick 2504, likely early 1960s, seen in this post). The pin was made by a gentleman at my church. The scarf is a 1970s Vera Neumann design purchased from Couture Allure. The shoes were a thrift store find.
Here are the firsts for me:
1. First suit I've ever made
2. First time sewing wool (though I have a lot in my stash)
3. First time making raglan sleeves (so easy!)
4. First time making a matching belt and covered belt buckle
5. First peplum
And while I've done bound buttonholes and covered buttons before, I did them much better this time around. The fit is comfortable and the skirt could be paired with a blouse for a different look.
I finished this suit just in time for (like the morning of) my company Christmas party. I plan on wearing it at least two more times in December at various Christmasy events.

oh my you must be sooo proud. This is a wonderful suit I can not believe it has covered so mant firsts!! Well done, you are amazing!!
Does this mean that you can offer advice on covering belt buckles? I am not a fan of making belt so to begin with, and find this prospect rather intimidating, but need to make one for a suit for me....
One thing I can say, Val, is that it is easier when the adhesive in the package isn't 60 years old and completely un-sticky. I ended up using double-sided tape to keep everything in place before I could get the back piece pounded in there. :)
You GO GIRL!!! This is awesome! I am SUPER impressed with your skills!
That's just beautiful!
Your suit is gorgeous! Great fit and a wonderfully flattering color.
