The Finished Corduroy Coat

I was so grateful for a beautiful covering of snow last week, not only to cover up the dead grass and mud (finally, it feels like January!) but also to serve as a lovely backdrop to photos of my second Sew Weekly challenge success.

This blue corduroy ($5) coat has six buttons (five functioning ones in front and one decorative one on the back yoke) and fit the buttonhole technique challenge nicely.

I used my automatic buttonholer rather than doing bound buttonholes, which would have looked nice but taken much longer.

I lined the coat with the batik ($0) I dyed earlier this month.

As far as I can see, the only good thing about our warmer temperatures (until the last few days, that is) has been that this is a very comfortable coat to wear in the 30-50 degree range.

The thing that makes me extra proud of this coat is the fact that I lost (and still have not found) the second sheet of directions (i.e., most of them, including all the stuff I was not 100% sure about how to execute) but I managed to finish it without them. Kudos to me. See more information about the project on The Sew Weekly.

I love, love, love the lining, perfect with the coat. I just can't believe you're out without a scarf around your neck! What we won't do for fashion. Your coat is lovely.

It was actually in the lower 30s that day and not much wind. Felt great! Perfect winter weather.

It looks great on you - and the color is amazing. I love the lining, too. It's like a party inside your coat. I bet it makes you smile just knowing it's there.

Fantastic! That amazing electric blue looks awesome against the snow. Great job once again.

You never cease to totally amaze me. Cudos to an EXCELLENT job. So proud of you. Just wish I could take the credit of your learning how to sew from me. Perhaps.....it's in the genes! :) Mom
