Write, Revise, Rewrite, Repeat
I just finished my first read-through of my manuscript and marked the first round of revisions. The good news is that I still think it's a good story and I still like it. The bad news is, there are definitely some places that need work. Timing, transitions, and descriptive passages during high-dialogue scenes are my main problems, and most of them occur in the middle to two-thirds through area. I love the ending chapters, which sort of amazes me since I've never been good at conclusions.
In fact, this novel is a lot like painting landscapes. I'm nearly always happy with the background and foreground; it's that slippery middle ground that gives me grief.
Onward and upward. Revisions to make. Then the momentous step of releasing it to limited public scrutiny in the form of read-throughs by friends and colleagues. Am I ready for this?
