Socializing Your Hobbies

My hobbies don't involve teams. They are generally things I do alone. Sewing, quilting, crocheting, photography, etc. But there is a long history of women doing their crafts together. Quilting bees, for instance, or a pleasant afternoon of chatting and needlework with friends. Modern knitting groups are one manifestation of this social crafting phenomenon in our day.
But you don't have to belong to a particular group to socialize your hobby. In fact, you don't even have to share the same hobby with others to hang out while you work on a project. If your project is portable, you can do it practically anywhere with anyone. Here's a list of hobbies I can think of at this moment that you could share with your friends. The list is by no means exhaustive and I encourage you to add to it in the comments.

knitting
crochet
cross stitch
embroidery
applique
hand quilting (smaller projects)
making yo-yos or hexagons for quilts
sewing (bring your machine or save the hand sewing parts, like the hem, for time with friends)
scrapbooking
stamping

If you're going to hang out anyway, why not bring something to work on? If you're friends aren't so crafty, ask if it's okay for you to bring a project to work on while you're at their house for dinner or while you meet for coffee. Most people don't mind, and it may spur in your friend an interest in that hobby, which you can then share.
