Time to Explore

It's finally nice enough to get outside and explore the great outdoors. And there is something really special about doing that with an almost-three-year-old.

It's when I spend time with Calvin outdoors away from all the toy trains and cars that I see myself in him most.

When we followed these wild turkeys and they hurried away from us, I told him that they were afraid of us because they didn't know us. Calvin suggested we hide behind a tree so they couldn't see us. So we did.

Calvin has been adopting adult poses like this lately.

All in all we had a very satisfying evening that included sightings of turkeys, vultures, turtles, a snake, a woodchuck, robins, red-winged blackbirds, and cardinals. We also heard the loud chorus of frogs by the pond and felt the strong winds of a coming storm system through our hair.

We're planning a return trip soon. Gotta keep an eye on those turkeys.

We have a saying in our family when we see a turkey cross the road out in front of the car. It's "Watch out for deer!" Because one year, on our way out of town we saw a turkey up ahead and then we hit a deer as it bounded out of the woods. I'm impressed at how much wild life there is around us, even in a little town!

He sure looks like you in these pictures; the same expressions of joy and wonder at nature's bounty. Brings back memories. Mom
